Do I need a wetsuit?

Generally, if the water you'll be swimming in is less than 75 degrees, you'll want thermal protection. Your body loses heat 10 times faster in water than in air. Wetsuits are designed to keep your core body warm. Full suits will keep your arms and legs warm too. USA Triathlon sanctioned events may require that you wear a wetsuit if the water is below a certain temperature. Conversely, if the water is warmer than a certain temperature, wetsuits may not be permitted.

How should I care for my wetsuit?

Always rinse it with cool, clean water after use. Never wring it out; rather, let it drip dry in the air. Between use, you should keep the suit either hanging on a thick plastic or wooden hanger, or fold it and store in a dry location. Be careful of long fingernails!

In the Aqua Skins, what is TLN?

TLN is Teflon, Lycra, and Neoprene. The Teflon adds durability, lycra adds flexibliity, and neoprene adds warmth and buoyancy.

Are Aqua Skins buoyant?

Aqua Skins are lightweight, flexible, and thermally protective wetsuits. The WT60, WT70, and WT80 all contain 0.5-mm of neoprene. This will provide for slight buoyancy. The WT50 is an all neoprene suit (1.0-mm) and offers more buoyancy than the other Aqua Skins.

Can I wear an Aqua Skin in a triathlon or biathlon?

Aqua Skins are allowed in any race where a wetsuit is allowed; however, please consult individual event rules for "skin" and other suit regulations.

Will the Aqua Skins really keep me warm down to the stated temperature range?

Generally, yes. It's amazing what neoprene, teflon, and lycra can do. But every swimmer is different. If you're the kind of person who chills easily, you may consider ordering the model that's below the range you'll be swimming in.

If I order a Blue Seventy or XTERRA wetsuit, will the thickness feel restrictive?

These triathlon wetsuits are designed to be flexible. Although in the core body the suits are 4- or 5-mm thick, the shoulders and arms are typically only 1- to 1.5-mm thick, which means maximum flexibility for your swimming stroke.

Are your Blue Seventy, XTERRA, and Aqua Sphere Multisport wetsuits buoyant?

Yes, very. These suits have core body thickness of up to 5-mm, which will greatly aid with floatation. They'll also keep you warm in chilly water.

How do I know what size Kaiman Goggles to order, small or large?

The small goggles are great for children and adults with smaller faces. In adults, the small goggles will fit on or inside the bones of the eye socket. It's a lower-profile look, and many adults prefer this for competing. The large goggles fit on or outside the eye socket. Adults may find this to be a more comfortable fit.

How do I clean the lenses of my swim eyewear?

The following two steps are recommended:
1. Rinse your goggles or mask off with fresh water after each use.
2. If you need to clean your lenses for any reason, use a baby shampoo. The lenses have been specially treated with an anti-fog and scratch resistant coating and do not react well to ordinary cleansing agents. Never use toothpaste or other abrasive cleaners.

What makes the Zip Fins so great?

We have been using the Zip Fins religiously since 2002. The split blade provides thrust, yet the shorter length of the blade means you get a great leg workout. There is very little strain on the ankles.
